The rally season closure event, ERST Finance Minirallijs Latvija 2024, turned out to be one of the most memorable assignments I’ve had this year. Taking place at the iconic Bikernieki track in Riga, the late autumn day was chilly and wet, with rain adding a slippery twist to the racing. Yet, the atmosphere was nothing short of electric. It was the kind of event that reminds you why you love motorsport—the energy, the camaraderie, and the relentless pursuit of speed.
Ninety-six crews lined up to compete across six dynamic special stages that fully utilized the track’s potential. The various configurations of the circuit kept the racing intense and unpredictable, making it a dream for a photographer to capture. As this was my first time shooting at Bikernieki, I decided to embrace the challenge with a minimalist approach. Armed with just a 35mm lens, I explored new angles and perspectives, letting the track and the racing dictate my shots. Traveling light pushed me to be more creative, and it was a rewarding experience that tested and honed my skills.
The event carried a special personal significance, too—it came just a day after my birthday. As I snapped away at the roaring rally cars splashing through puddles and sliding around corners, I couldn’t have asked for a better celebration. The warmth of the motorsport community and the thrill of the action made for an unforgettable day.
While the weather may have been cold and damp, the spirit of the event was vibrant and uplifting. The ERST Finance Minirallijs Latvija 2024 wasn’t just the perfect season finale for the crews; it was also a reminder of why I’m drawn to motorsport photography. I left Bikernieki not just with a memory card full of images, but with a heart full of gratitude for being part of such an incredible experience.
